On the Investigation of War Crimes
Amnesty International debate following the screening of THE INVESTIGATOR, dir. Viktor Portel
partner: Amnesty International Poland
What does the work of investigators look like in war-torn countries and hotspots worldwide? What did, and what does it look like now in Ukraine? How do investigators work in the field, how do they get access to witnesses and crime scenes, and how can digital technologies help? Why is it so time-consuming when everything seems a well-known fact? Finally, does international justice work, and what significance does it have for the inhabitants of the devastated areas and those affected by the violence, if it only reaches few people? We will discuss the war crimes investigation in Ukraine and other countries with Brian Castner, investigator and advisor of the Amnesty International Crisis Response Programme, and Anna Błaszczak-Banasiak, director of Amnesty Poland.
