THE SUPER 8 YEARS, dir. Annie Ernaux, David Ernaux-Briot

An artefact of life's prose. Meeting about „The Super 8 Years” with expert in Romance languages Marta Sukiennicka and translator of „Bliscy” Agata Kozak

Partners: Bookowski. Bookshop in the Castle, Wydawnictwo Czarne

„The Super 8 Years” is an intimate portrait of Annie Ernaux composed entirely of Super 8mm films from the family archive. We follow the first steps of the Nobel Prize winner's career, relationships with loved ones, accompany her on her travels and sit at the table during the holidays. The film will be a pretext to talk about two subjects prominent in Ernaux’s writing -  femininity and parenthood. Marta Sukiennicka and Agata Kozak will talk about her uncompromising nature, distance, but also tenderness and empathy.

Guests:

Marta Sukiennicka – scholar of Romance languages, philosopher, expert in French literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. Works as an assistant professor at the Department of French Literature of the Adam Mickiewicz University. Author of two books on the literature of French Romanticism.

Agata Kozak – translator of poetry and prose of outstanding francophone authors, including Annie Ernaux's "Bliscy" (joint Polish publication of three works ”La place”, “Une femme” and “L'autre fille”). She studied Romance languages at the University of Warsaw and lettres modernes in Paris. Kozak cooperates with, among others, the National Philharmonic and the Nowy Theater in Warsaw, translating texts for pieces performed on stage.

Moderator:
