Jakob Bro, Arve Henriksen and Joey Baron concert

A film filled with music and music telling a beautiful story with extraordinary lightness – this is the mix presented by Millennium Docs Against Gravity this year. Downbeat described Jakob Bro's latest album as “abundant with airy and liquid grace”. You will be able to listen to his music at a one-off concert in Poland at Pardon, To Tu on Saturday, May 13, at 8:30 p.m. The brilliant Danish guitarist and composer, who has worked with Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Kenny Wheeler, Paul Bley and Chris Cheek, will perform together with Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and legendary drummer Joey Baron (who has worked with Carmen Mcrae, Lou Reed, Chet Baker and Allen Ginsberg). BBC Music Magazine wrote about the “Uma Elmo” album: “Danish guitarist Jakob Bro’s new recording is quintessential ECM: a small group of intensely talented individuals making rarefied music in the moment, captured by superb production values.” Bro's opening track, “Reconstructing a Dream”, best encapsulates what you can expect this evening – an extraordinary blend of talent and craftsmanship, transporting us effortlessly into a world of unfettered imagination. In “To Stanko”, Bro also pays tribute to the eminent Polish trumpeter with whom he has collaborated on many occasions.

Before or after the concert, as either its prologue or epilogue, we invite you to a screening of the film “Music for Black Pigeons” presented at this year’s MDAG. The film features not only Bro, Henriksen and Baron but also such musicians as Bill Frisell, Paul Motian, Lee Konitz and Midori Takada. The filmmakers followed some of jazz's most prolific, acclaimed, and eccentric artists for 14 years, searching for the intimate moments that give rise to the music.

Screenings followed by Q&As with the artists at Kinoteka on May 13, at 4 p.m. and May 14, at 8:15 p.m. Other screenings: Kinoteka, May 17, at 4 p.m. and Atlantic, May 19, at 6:30 p.m.
