KinoUkraїna. A meeting with director and the protagonist of the film “We Will Not Fade Away” following the screening

The KinoUkraїna cycle at the DCF cinema presents the most outstanding film achievements of our eastern neighbour. It is not difficult to spot them, as Ukrainian cinema has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years. Proof of this is Alisa Kovalenko's film “We Will Not Fade Away” which premiered this year at Berlinale. The documentary follows five Ukrainian teenagers growing up in small towns in a coal mining district. Like the teens around the world, they fight against the boredom and the multiple frustrations of finding out who you are, and how to live. But these teens are in Donbas, where the war has been going on for years. Not only the region is ravaged by economic decline, but fighting rages constantly in the background – and sometimes much closer. Will art, or maybe just friendship, help them in the struggle with reality? How is it to grow up in a war zone? We will talk about this with our guests after the screening.

Guests:
Alisa Kovalenko and Elizaveta Atanova
