European Literature Night. A Prologue

Live reading before the screening of the film “Anhell69”, dir. Theo Montoya

PL

Once again, a prologue to the European Literature Night will take place as part of the Wrocław edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity. During this event, fragments of outstanding European prose will be read live by the most interesting Polish actors and actresses over one evening in ten extraordinary city spaces. This year's edition will take place in August under the title “Cabinet of Curiosities”. It will be preceded by a live reading before the screening of the film “Anhell69” which follows a group of young queer artists from Medellin who are looking for a safe space in a city still living in the shadow of Pablo Escobar, full of violence but also passion. The protagonists try to be together, experiment with sex and gender, and express their rebellion by constantly accentuating their status as social outcasts. However, their nihilistic attitude hides a dream of a different world... The characters of Carolina de Robertis' novel “Cantoras” (Albatros Publishing House), which will serve as a literary commentary for the film, share a similar dream. Set during the Uruguayan military dictatorship, it is a story of five different women who find in each other lovers, friends and family in the military dictatorship of Uruguay. Together they struggle to live the lives they wish for and are tested by their families, love, society and each other.
